“Jefferson Gothic was originally Monotype's copy of News Gothic Extra Condensed, using the same foundry name. In 1916 Sol Hess designed several alternate round capitals; matrix fonts include both styles of these letters, but no lowercase. Baltimore Type called it Tourist Extra Condensed [in sizes larger than 48pt]. Compare Phenix.” [McGrew 1993]
Digitally revived as LTC Jefferson Gothic (P22/LTC, 2005).
