Wholesome Bakery, a San Francisco-based business known for its vegan, gluten-free, and sustainably made treats, blends creativity and clarity in its visual identity. The offbeat nature of OH no Type Co.’s Irregardless lends character to their logo and packaging, reflecting the bakery’s playful yet conscious ethos. It’s supported by Trump Gothic.

On their website, the clean, modern lines of Century Gothic ensure readability and reinforce the approachable, eco-friendly brand presence. Wholesome Bakery recently closed the doors to its brick-and-mortar location but continues to thrive online, with products available at retailers such as Whole Foods.

Since 2006, the Grupo Maria Cutia is based in Belo Horizonte and is dedicated to research on street theater. To celebrate the group's 10th anniversary, we created a visual identity inspired by popular urban posters. Similar to these media, the work consisted of a diverse typographic composition, creating a texture of juxtaposed information.

Another important aspect of the project is its vibrant orange Pantone color. In addition to posters and flyers, the group distributed a free commemorative newspaper composed of images and texts that narrate the company's trajectory.

The number 10 uses Rosewood minus the ornamentation.

The logo for DWP features that inverted triangle, which appears to have potential Illuminati connections. Interviews with the band suggest otherwise, but to me I see an inverted pyramid with three scratch marks down it, which seems to be mocking the Holy Trinity, while giving us the inverted feel of Satanic presence.

The Devil Wears Prada has a new symbol on the Dead Throne album cover, and it is also on the "Born to Lose" single cover. What does the triangle with three lines represent, and who thought of it?

Mike Hranica of The Devil Wears Prada: “We wanted a new band name logo and we also wanted an icon. Basically you would be able to go into Hot Topic [see below], or some store and say, ‘Okay, this is Misfits, this is Black Flag, this is Slipknot, this is Avenged Sevenfold, Rise Against, Alkaline Trio,’ and you can tell all of that by seeing something without any words. Whether it's a heart with a skull in it, a heart with an arrow coming out of it, or whatever it is, we wanted something like that to represent us to.

We hired this guy named Cor[e]y [Holms] who is a very prominent graphic designer. He did The Soprano's logo and whatnot, so we got him to try and come up with something for us. His idea was a pitchfork and he lofted it up in a circle. We saw it and didn't really like the circle, and it reminded all of us too much of Underoath's ‘O’ so we took the lines and not to be too trendy but, triangles are very popular right now so we put it in a triangle. We put it right side up, and then flipped it upside down, which is basically what we came up with except we shortened the lines.

A lot of people are like, ‘What does it mean, what does it mean?’ and it doesn't mean anything. Really, the only thought behind it was the lines are meant to resemble a pitchfork. Sometimes I tell people it is meant to be a middle finger coming out of a fist, flipping off the world.”

Type reversed out of photography isn’t a new concept, or particularly inventive, but if the photography is good and the type is right it’s pretty damn effective. Need Supply Co. proved this over the last year with their email campaigns using fonts from YouWorkForThem. The two companies announced their collaboration at the end of 2009 and it seems beneficial to both parties. As the images propagate to design blogs and social shopping sites they cement Need Supply as a hip, modern retailer while gently promoting YWFT typefaces.

The new look began with Press Gothic, a revival of Niebolo and Aldo Novarese’s Metropol which was born in 1967 as a competitor to the popular Impact, paired with the brand’s former identity face ITC Avant Garde Gothic.

This typeface requires subtitles. Intentionally over the top, Stefan Kjartansson’s Cumulus and Foam serves as illustration more than type.
