An attempt to work Akzidenz-Grotesk into a Univers-like system of harmonized weights and widths, initiated by Karl Gerstner at GGK Basel, drawn by Christian Mengelt, and produced by Berthold for the Diatype. Released from 1964 on. [Gerstner on Swiss Type Design] After the demise of the Diatype, it was still carried by VGC (as Gerstner Program).
A digital restoration was drawn by Stephan Müller in 2008–2011, with Gerstner’s approval and Mengelt’s input, and released in the original 4 weights plus oblique italics (but without the condensed and extended variations) by Forgotten Shapes in 2017.
