The band name is shown in caps from Ludlow Black, a follower of Cooper Black. The song names appear to be in the breit fett (bold extended) style of Akzidenz-Grotesk, with its alternate a. The wide r doesn’t match the glyph in Berthold’s foundry version – it might be custom made by trimming an n [edit: no, see comments].

1967 US version on Atco Records

Fresh Cream is the debut album of UK three-piece Cream. Originally released in 1966 on Reaction Records in UK, shown above is the 1967 US album cover released on ATCO Records, featuring Roberta for the band name – vastly different than the drawn out typography on the UK cover (see the end of this post). Below is the German copy on Polydor Records featuring Ludlow Black with elongated lower halves.

The design is credited to Paragon Publicity and Public Relations Ltd., London. Chances are that this refers to the original UK release, and that the type treatments for the American and German versions were done by others.

A Hungarian-language poster for Tanár Úrnak, Szerettel (To Sir With Love), the 1967 film directed by James Clavell and starring Sidney Poitier.

From Lizzyoung Bookseller:

To Sir, With Love is based on a 1959 autobiographical novel by E.R. Braithwaite. The British drama features an idealistic teacher trying to connect with his East End students who have been thrown away by society.

If I understand the poster’s credits correctly, it was designed by György Kemény (credited as “KEMÉNY GY”) and offset-printed by Bors Ferenc for Magyar Hirdető, Hungary’s state-run advertising agency whose logo is in the top right corner. Some versions of the poster (presumably the originals) also feature the logo of Hungary’s state-run film distributor, MOKÉP, in the top left corner.

The poster features the Ringlet typeface, set freeform – perhaps as dry transfer lettering – on a yellow band, wrapping around an illustrated portrait of Poitier’s face, which is filled with a red and green sunburst pattern. Windsor and Ludlow Black are used for supporting text.

The extra-small type on the poster appears to be Elegant-Grotesk and Futura (or similar) for the publishing credits and Kemény’s design credit, respectively.

Ludlow Black, Robert H. Middleton’s take on Cooper Black, is used in all caps for the title and author of this first paperback edition of Judgment on Janus, with cover art by Alex Schomburg. The smaller type is set in two styles from News Gothic, or maybe from Record Gothic, a largely identical typeface that, like Ludlow Black, originated at Ludlow.

Hawaiian-themed easy listening album by American guitarist Billy Mure (1915–2013) and his orchestra. The B side features tracks by Harry Kaapuni and His Royal Polynesians, a group that also went under many other aliases. It was released by Spin-O-Rama Records, probably in the mid 1960s.

The title typeface is not Cooper Black, as one might assume, but the very similar Ludlow Black (1922). Designed by Robert Hunter Middleton in 1924 as his first original typeface (well), it’s distinguished by concave serifs. The track list is set in more caps from Hermann Zapf’s Melior (1952), with alternating line colors. The script used for “Also Featuring” is another design by Middleton, Mandate (1934).

The band name is set in what looks like a customized version of the same typeface that is used for the song titles: Ludlow Black. Ludlow Black itself is close to Cooper Black, differing in details like the truncated feet.

Using fonts with elongated lower halves was common usance for psychedelica-related design in the 1960s. Instead of stretching Ludlow, the designer could have created a nearly identical design using Somalia, a ready-made ‘platform shoe’ version of Cooper Black.
