Reptile is a Netflix crime thriller starring Benicio del Toro, Justin Timberlake, and Alicia Silverstone. It tells the story of brutal murder of a young real estate agent.

The typeface chosen for logo and posters is Stolzl by Inhouse Type Foundry. Stolzl is the text companion of the display family Stolzl Display, which was optically tailored to perform as a functional addition to this concept steered font collection. Stolzl Text is a modernist interpretation of the first release, stripped of the primary stylized attributes, it is highly readable in print and on screen. It was created by UK designer Maria Lish.

In 2019, we at Estúdio Arquivo were approached by author Márcio Santos to initially create a cover for his e-book, in which all the content was already completed. After a few conversations to better understand the author's expectations, we decided to start with a digital book project so that he could circulate the work faster and in a second instance we adapted the project for a print edition.

After reading Márcio’s original version of the book, we came up with the idea of using an image of a totem of stones like those seen in the waterfalls on the cover. We suggested changing the original title Ácido na ponta da faca (“Acid at the tip of the knife”) to Pedras no chão (“Stones on the ground”), and to play with the overprint. Indeed, the text turns into an outline when it comes in contact with the photograph. Upon seeing our new suggestion, the author immediately agreed.

In the print version, the title is set in Stolzl, in a vibrant blue spot color. The outline typographic variation appears in the chapter openings as well. The body text is set in LL Bradford and the pages are printed in black on a yellowed paper to improve the reading experience.

The final charm is due to a graphic production detail: the stitching line of the notebooks inside matches the blue spot color of the cover.

Users can get an image of the letter after it’s generated. The text is currently set in Stolzl and Adelle, with a signature (far better than most of us can muster) using Kinescope, a 1940s-style brush script, inspired by hand-lettered titles in Fleischer Brothers’ Superman cartoon series.

Continuing our work with A3 Sports we have launched DRoP!, a speciality multi-brand sneaker store. Designed to appeal to sneakerheads, we created a sophisticated sportswear retail brand rooted in sneaker and urban culture.

The name and logo were inspired by sneaker drop dates which are essential to any sneaker collector coveting the first release of streetwear products. The use of this term fits perfectly with DRoP!’s mission to deliver the freshest product to hungry sneakerheads.

Our store concept avoids prevailing trends in sneaker retail and uses spatial design to immerse and tantalise the consumer.
