We reimagined the visual identity for beckn, a universal protocol enabling open, decentralised digital ecosystems. The world carries interconnectedness in its pocket, yet continues to function in silos. Envisioned as free, open, and accessible, the internet’s promise remains uneven – one that beckn reimagines through open, decentralised digital ecosystems.

Having built beckn’s identity in 2020, the brand language was evolved from a quiet, minimal presence into one that feels bold, empowering, and deliberately counter-intuitive. Rooted in the metaphor of the rhizome – a non-linear, interconnected network – the refreshed system reflects how the internet actually works. At the core of the identity is an organic rhizome grid layered with a structured framework, balancing dynamism with order. A visual language built from three geometric forms circle, square, and pentagon – represents the ecosystem’s diverse participants.

Noto Serif forms the typographic foundation of the visual identity. Chosen for its open-source, multilingual foundation – supporting over 1,000 languages and more than 150 writing systems – it echoes beckn’s vision of an internet that is accessible, inclusive, and not owned by any single entity. Its considered, universal character reinforces the protocol’s role as shared infrastructure, while its classical structure introduces a counter-intuitive presence within a decentralised, technology-driven context. The supporting typeface, Poppins, provides a contemporary geometric contrast, bringing clarity and functional precision across digital interfaces.

The Culture & Community Power Fund is a funding initiative that supports projects helping indigenous peoples of America and other communities impacted by systemic oppression. The typography in the fund’s identity, created by design studio Outside, is catered by Berton Hasebe’s Druk Condensed and Fragment Sans by Pangram Pangram. The ampersand is taken from Noto Serif Italic.

Santa Marta is a take-out bakery rooted in authentic homemade Spanish cooking, offering traditional dishes like paella and stews. The brand emphasizes food as a deeply personal and emotional experience, invoking memory and the feeling of home.

From a graphic design perspective, the brand identity is crafted to match this heartfelt, nostalgic concept. The calligraphic logo using Carta Nueva by My-Lan Thuong conveys a handcrafted, traditional feel, reinforcing the authenticity of the culinary offerings. Additionally, illustrations inspired by everyday ingredients and kitchen objects from the bakery’s environment are seamlessly integrated into the branding, enhancing its storytelling. Carte is paired with a yet unidentified serif [edit: it’s Noto Serif, see comments] used in all caps. It allows the identity to adapt fluidly across different media, ensuring consistent yet flexible visual communication.

The visual language not only supports but amplifies the emotional and cultural value of Santa Marta’s offering—positioning it as a brand that blends culinary tradition with thoughtful design.

Silent Hill 2 Remake is a 2024 survival horror game and a remake of the 2001 classic, developed by Bloober Team and published by Konami on October 8th 2024. It follows James Sunderland as he returns to the town of Silent Hill after receiving a letter from his deceased wife, Mary, who claims to be there waiting for him.

Just like the original, the game uses a serif typeface for its UI. After a bit of digging in the game’s files, it turns out that Noto Serif is used as the primary typeface. Barlow is used as the secondary one, albeit in a very inconspicuous manner, used only on the button prompts and parts of the credits scene.

Heebo is a Korean brand specialised in commercialising Taheebo tea. Taheebo (a.k.a. Pau d’Arco) is a large canopy tree native to the Amazon rainforest and other tropical parts of South America. It grows to 30 meters high and the base of the tree can be 2–3 meters in diameter. Taheebo tea is derived from the inner bark of the Tabebuia impetiginosa or Tabebuia avellanedae tree.

The logo looks like it’s using custom lettering, while Noto Serif Hangul is the typeface that can be the more consistently found across all channels. Noto Serif Latin also makes some rare appearances for English-language elements. But for most of its Latin texts, the revitalised brand harnesses the personality, performance and peculiarity of NaN Tragedy within its refined, restrained graphic system to craft a visual identity that’s both characterful and serene in equal measure – truly reflective of the tea’s comforting properties. The typeface champions this balance through its construction and concept, appearing both pragmatic and energetic due to the exaggerated idiosyncrasies of its design, courtesy of the font’s calligraphic contrast axis and roots.

In the context of the Madrid Design Festival 2023, the American Hardwood Export Council (AHEC) organized an exhibition – Natural Connections – at Matadero Madrid with the aim of fostering a playful, conscious, and nature-focused connection between materials and people. The challenge was to design a visual identity that would authentically reflect this connection with wood and nature.

To achieve this, we deliberately chose to use the Maax Raw typeface as a key element in our visual identity. Maax Raw captures the essence of the exhibition and its relationship with nature. Its unrefined appearance and closed forms evoke the authenticity of wood and AHEC's commitment to sustainability. By combining this typeface with nature-inspired visual elements such as lines, logs, and tree rings, we created a visual identity that distinctly and cohesively represents the connection with wood. Secondary information is set in Noto Serif.

Francesca Girolami Studio provides services of architecture, interior design, product design, preparation, creative direction, artistic direction, styling and consulting. Girolami is a multidisciplinary designer focusing on the process and the care of customers who are sensitive to beauty and practicality and who want to improve themselves.

The concept for the new identity comes from “playing with space” through the union of linearity, cleanliness and order with dynamism, overlaps and reflections, to express the two natures that represent it: elegance and culture, but also fun, freshness and uniqueness.

The "game of space" also takes place through the use of typography. Letters expand and contract in space. The O, the only letter in the Noto Serif font, becomes the "star" of the pictogram.

Designed by studio other types, Kinematic Cache is a project by Berlin based Taiwanese artist Yu-Ling Hsueh. Her project deals with the construction of a tunnel through the Xueshan mountain range in Taiwan and the soundscape it produces. From design studio Other Types (translated from German):

It is a transparent cassette that reflects the hollow space of the tunnel and allows light to shine through the cassette. The arrangement of Chinese characters and Latin letters overlap. The inlay is a leporello fold, which in turn also suggests the association of a tunnel. The abstracted topographical image on the back of the leporello radiates something sonorous, as does the arrangement of the texts.

Printed in an edition of 100 copies (Risograph, one-color pad printing, and 4-color offset printing). The typefaces in use are Bastardo Grotesk by Giulia Boggio, Noto Serif TC by Adobe/Google Fonts, and Arachne by Leonhard Laupichler.

The publication 차의 계절 The Seasons of Tea is a practical and beautiful tea guide, coming with samples of special blends of tea selected by the author. The book introduces you to tea on a deeper level, offers insights of enjoying tea in everyday life, looking into the various types of tea, how to brew tea, the seasons of tea, as well as ways to enjoy tea in different ways. Written by Jeong Da-hyung 정다형, the book was published by Hans Media.

South Korean design practice Studio Gomin opted for Grand Slang as the main Latin display typeface, paired with SM중명조 and SM견출명조 as the main Korean font. The latter got substituted by Noto Serif CJK for the Chinese glyphs. The pagination of the book is set in Adobe Caslon.

Halyard Text is the primary typeface used by Observador. Launched in 2014, the Portuguese newspaper was rather unique at the time in that it was published exclusively in digital from, with no printed edition. In 2021, Observador revised its typography and chose new fonts that better represent the newspaper’s identity and brand.

The main typeface used both on the website and the mobile apps now is Halyard Text by Darden Studio, replacing the old Roboto in headlines, decks and highlights, but also in navigational elements and auxiliary texts. Halyard Text can prove itself as an on-screen workhorse sans that’s clear and pleasantly readable across a range of sizes and weights, without compromising on character and distinctiveness.

For the process of selecting the new typefaces, Observador’s in-house design team consulted with art director Ana Freitas. “After we reached a small group of finalists, Halyard Text was the one that stood out for being the most functional, expressive, dynamic and recognizable”, explains design manager Alex Santos. Freitas characterizes Halyard Text as “a flexible, contemporary and very consistent typeface.” The newspaper acknowledges that typography is a crucial element in brand communication: the style guide prescribes Halyard Text for all communication elements, to be used whenever possible.

Halyard Text is paired with Noto Serif for body text. The latter was chosen as it better harmonizes with Halyard Text than the previously used Georgia.

Ciutadella is the brand typeface of Detomaso Watches. Emtype Foundry’s sans serif is used for everything from the wordmark to the website. It aslo graces the watches – including the watchfaces – themselves.

On the company website, Ciutadella is paired with Noto Serif.

Italian furniture / home decor brand Visionnaire celebrated its fifteen years with an exceptional project that takes on the characteristics of a precious author’s book: published in a numbered series, the volume presents the ten founding values ​​of the company, defined through an overall vision that has the strength of a creed.

Decàlogo is the result of a refined choral work that welcomes contributions of absolute prestige: edited by Barbara Brondi & Marco Rainò and with the graphic design of BRH+, the book is embellished with a series of ad hoc contents, which include a photographic work by Delfino Sisto Legnani and critical thoughts of Felix Burrichter, Leon Sun and Natalia Timascheva.

The large white spaces, the wide format and the bronze-colored print guarantee the project the right balance between preciousness and essentiality. Each value is accompanied by an apparently abstract graphic, but which, on a closer look, reveals the linear designs of Visionnaire products, repeated and rotated as in a kaleidoscope.

The volume is mainly set in Miller Headline (Carter & Cone), with Noto Serif (Google) and Songti TC for Russian and Chinese texts.

Corporate design for the “bestseller authors, foodies, food ecotrophologists and bloggers” Alex & Sarah. Based on the typeface Line, six icons were created to become the main design elements – for example in compositions on four different business cards or in various sizes on the stationery.

New visual identity system designed for Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra (HKPhil) to celebrate its 45th anniversary in HK outdoor publicity. Using Danmark (English) and Noto Serif CJK (Traditional Chinese) with their modern-classic style. The typeface Danmark created by A2-TYPE has a modern look and is easily readable. We use different background colours to highlight different series.
