Visually, BaseNYC took a bold approach—leaning fully into green as a symbol of vitality and serenity. The identity bursts into mini-particles, capturing the multifaceted sensations of drinking matcha and giving the brand a dynamic range of moods and moments. 12 is a brand that isn’t just seen or tasted—it’s felt. It's a return to craft, mastery, and a deeper connection between tradition and the present—shaping a memorable and contemporary brand.

The Alec Gill Gessle Road photo archive. 1971–87 is a self-published photobook, “celebrating the photographic study of one road in Hull and its community at the heart of the UK's historic fishing culture”.

We designed the publication with a dynamic visual flow in reference to Alec Gill’s spontaneous approach to documenting the community. Browsing through the book mirrors the way Alec discovered moments to capture as he wandered through the streets. The book is divided into three main sections with different paper stocks and six spot colors. Swiss binding with a soft cover ensures a comfortable reading experience and full visibility of the images, which were printed duotone to add more depth. The use of typography adds a contemporary feel in contrast to the 50-year-old rescued negatives.

Bound with exposed blue thread mirroring the colour of the opening spreads and annotations throughout the main photo section. This blue is in reference to one of Alec’s archival notebooks.

The box set edition of Something in nothing is a custom, screen-printed 3-ring binder containing the complete series of five issues, featuring the photography of Adam Swift Lucas along with found images and text excerpts. Each issue was published bi-annually from 2019 to 2021. The booklets are spaces to archive ideas, sketches, and studies. The content is mostly observations and impressions of the everyday that attempt to spotlight the something in nothing.

While the issues and binder were produced under the NOS Press imprint, by the time the complete set was ready to be launched — on the occasion of the 2022 Detroit Art Book Fair —  NOS Press had become Specific Ideas. The publication, published in a liited edition of 50 copies, won The Society for Typographic Arts 100 award in 2022.

As the beginning of Western civilization, ancient Greek had a significant impact on Latin. How has the Greek script changed nowadays? How does it apply in daily life? What is the point of view from local designers on Greek design? With a collection of pictures both from streets and museums, as well as an interview from Typeroom, I produced this zine about Greek typography from my daily observations during a trip to Athens.

It’s split into two parts. The first part, Modernologio, gathers all the pictures of Greek typography that I took during the 5-day study trip. The second part, Archeology, shows images from the Epigraphic Museum.

The booklet was made during my studies at AKV St. Joost. The word Τυπογραφία (“typography”) on the cover was made by repurposing Latin glyphs from gc16, inspired by signboards spotted in Athens. Since there are not that many Greek typefaces, local people often deconstruct Latin typefaces to compose their own. The text is in Atlas Grotesk, set ragged right and with small margins.

ILVZ Estudio is a new graphic design studio based in Puebla, México. Started by Íñigo López Vázquez, we create websites, typefaces, brands and printed matter. Our own website uses GT Walsheim for text, with gc16 for headings.

Identity for Gül Restoran, a new restaurant in Zürich. In Turkish, Gül can mean rose but also laugh (in second person imperative form). The central letter Ü – which is both typical for Turkish and Swiss German – is playfully applied in words on social media, on merchandise and other occasions. The custom drawn logo blends Latin letterforms with Arab characteristics.

The fonts used by YAN-CO.Studio are both by Bold-Decisions. They offer a certain attitude with a subtle distinction. One could say that the sans-serif Lars is neutral, universal and leading, offering stability and trust. But then again, the way how we use Lars in the communication doesn’t adhere to the conventions: It stands apart from designs in the proper Swiss style as they can easily be found in Zürich. Further, I was thrilled by gc16 and its fragile organic beauty with futuristic and calligraphic features, which take us to an unknown, foreign, (spicy) place.

“In an age defined by extremes of finitude and excess, deprivation and luxury, what is vanity? How do we register our own transitoriness even as we strive against decay and senescence, by way of cryogenics labs, biotechnology innovations, spa treatments, and the hoarding of material goods and digital files? This issue explores contemporary meditations on mortality as well as the delights, delusions, and pressures of fleshly existence, and ranges from the much-heralded “end of death” to collective processes of aging to the pursuit of impossible—or nearly impossible—forms of beauty. The name is taken from the opulent, hyperrealist still lifes popularized by Dutch and Flemish painters in the seventeenth century, which symbolize the brevity of human life and essential emptiness of earthly pursuits, even as they advertise the artist’s ability to fix time. These paradoxical images prompt us to consider how and why we strive to overcome death while reminding us of our certain mortality.
