Dualizm is a beatmaker from Berlin, Germany, who specializes in lo-fi beats. He has over 750,000 monthly Spotify listeners. I created five single record covers for his upcoming Spotify releases, working with personal photographs of countries like the United States, Israel, and Morocco. ITC Benguiat and Gibson are used throughout.

With its modern campus and historical background, Edge Hill University commissioned Absolute to create a campaign which best reflected their brand to help them stand out from other universities. For the campaign headlines, we selected IvyMode (in Semi Bold) to strike the balance between old and new. This was coupled with Gibson as the campaign’s secondary typeface for clarity.

Poster for ACORN, Living Rent and London Renters’ Union to encourage people to join these organisations. Headlines use Marvin Visions, smaller text is set with Futura.

Autonomous Design Group is an independent collective of designers, artists and creatives opposed to capitalism and authoritarianism. We maintain that the aesthetic is of vital importance in the terrain of political struggle. We aim to offer artistic support to a wide range of groups and movements and encourage everyone to contact us for designs. All our designs are open-source and editable.

​We use a combination of collage, creative graphical elements, strong typography and colour palettes to depart from the usual red and black style of the left – an aesthetic which we believe comes across as dated and out of touch.

Blackstone Valley Prep, a public charter school in Rhode Island, hired architecture and design firm Arrowstreet to create colorful and engaging graphics to cover the walls of the school.

The design’s treatment of color is similar to Paula Scher’s work for Achievement First Endeavor Middle School in New York, but is largely unique in its type treatment. Relying on a different drop-cap style initial for each section, the design is unified by the use of the school’s two standard typefaces, the sans-serif Gibson and the serif Tiempos.

The overall concept features P.R.I.D.E. (Perseverance, Respect, Integrity, Discipline, and Enthusiasm); the school’s core set of principles. Oversized letters on colorful accent walls are paired with quotes chosen by members of the BVP community. Each letter is set in a different typeface to represent BVP’s diverse community of people and ideas. The graphics are strategically placed throughout the school to inspire and encourage staff and scholars each day.

The stencil E for Enthusiasm is custom or from an unidentified typeface.

The multiline R for Respect is similar to Quanten.

Capsul is an LA-based premium jewelry brand, founded by Tina Cheng, with a focus on custom jewelry.

Monday Swimwear was founded 2014 by Australian Instagram model Natasha Oakley and her business partner Devin Brugman. The brand offers women’s swimwear “known for its iconic feminine designs, immaculate fit, soft-to-touch feel and enduring quality.”

The website typography brings together IvyMode (The Ivy Foundry, 2018) for headlines and banners, next to Gibson (Canada Type, 2011) for body text, and Sofia (Mostardesign, 2012) for product information. The logo could either be lettering or based on another typeface.

This site is a design portfolio for Ian Grivois and a place to share his experiments and writing. Aften Screen performs superbly at small sizes on the screen and has a serene and elegant character. Lyon has a familiarity that gives a sense of quiet to bodies of text, perhaps because the typeface draws upon references to the ubiquitous Times Roman. Lyon also has a distinctive and contemporary flare that does not prevent the reader from getting lost in text and ideas. The reserve of the roman cut joyously lets loose in an exuberant italic. Gibson is a wonderful workhorse typeface that is used here for headlines. The overall texture of the words have a beautiful fit and finish and there is gorgeous subtlety to be found in the reverse curves of the italics. It is a typeface that raises funds for a good cause (Canada’s national design organization) and has an exceptional price point. I am surprised it is not seen more widely on the web. The portfolio slideshow has H&Co’s Sentinel for headings, but that is not a standard part of site’s type palette. Overall, it is thrilling to have such quality web type available for design and to practice how best to use these on a personal site.
