Commissioned from Monotype by the publishing house of William Collins, Sons & Co., Glasgow and London, in 1936. Collins used the name of the typeface for their range of paperback books, similar to Penguin’s in format, for many years. Designed by Giovanni Mardersteig, based on a typeface cut by Alexander Wilson of the Glasgow Letter Foundry about 1760. Released publicly in 1961 as series 403 in roman and italic styles. [Specimen, Ashworth]
