First cast by Stempel in roman and italic styles in 1939. A halbfett followed in 1940. Working title was Chappell Mediaeval [Reichardt 2011]. Completed without Chappell’s involvement, who had to leave Germany in 1939. Adapted for the Linotype in 1941. In 1957, Hermann Zapf added Cyrillics to all three styles of the Linotype version [Weichselbaumer 2015].
A phototype version was available from VGC.
Digital interpretations include Linotype Trajanus (three weights, all with italics) and Tribunus SG (Spiece Graphics, original three styles).
