Originally established in 1824 as Berliner Missionsgesellschaft (BMG), the Berliner Missionswerk (“Berlin Missionary Society”) supports churches and development projects in the Middle East, in Africa, East Asia, Russia, Cuba, North America and Europe.

WeltBlick (“World View”), a magazine published by Berliner Missionswerk triennially, covers developments and news on its projects and their partner churches abroad.

Berliner Missionswerk’s identity mainly uses JAF Facit; the magazine WeltBlick designed by Katrin Art of Hellowork is set in Utopia in tight combination with Facit. The two typefaces share similar attributes such as somewhat narrow proportions and slightly squarish bowls – the typography of the magazine is a good example of how you can combine two families effectively.

The wordmark uses caps from the Black weight of Adrian Frutiger’s Vectora.

Published in 2000, Tom Brown’s cover design for this new translation of Tolstoy’s novel avoids the cliché of a faux-Cyrillic typeface like Kremlin by using Filosofia Unicase for the title. Two weights of Futura complete an elegant design.

(Does anyone know who lettered the Great Books logo seen in the upper-right corner of the cover? It has sadly been replaced with a very uninspired sans.)

There is no credit for the design of the book itself. The title page repeats Filosofia Unicase and the delicate line rules from the cover, but then overcomplicates things with Palatino Italic and what looks like Venus Extended (all caps) and Light. Sabon appears below the Penguin logo and is used for the text of the novel.

Oprah Winfrey selected this edition for her 2004 summer reading program. The online schedule for marching through the 817-page book featured Vectora, which was the primary display face in Oprah magazine at the time.

Cherry Knot is a concept for a liquor infused ice cream company. Cooked up for an Adobe Live challenge, the request was to create a business card for a fictional company using newly released Monotype fonts. The logo is set in FF Amman Sans. Vectora is used as a secondary brand font. Created with tongue-in-cheek humor this brand is ‘knotty but nice’!
