Hitori + Kaiso 1998–2001 is Casino Versus Japan’s fourth album and first compilation of unreleased tracks. The album was released on January 30, 2004, via Attacknine.

Century Gothic is used for the artist name on the front cover with a slight drop-shadow. In the bottom right corner, the album name is set in Arial. There is heavy tracking used on most text.

The track list on the back cover uses Arial Bold, also with heavy tracking.

The cover design/concept is credited to Hologramrinse/Erik Alwell, who is a cofounder of the Attacknine label

Boogie Nights Halloween flyer, red backside (Instagram version)

Halloween flyers are some of my favorite designs to create because they tend to be fun and creative. This BOO-gie Nights flyer is one of my own personal favorite Halloween flyer designs that I’ve created over the years, thanks to the extremely dramatic composition, costumes, facial expressions, and lighting. The flyer was designed for the Boogie Nights Halloween party presented by DJ Frank G and Gil Cabrerra on Saturday, October 28th, 2023, at Islanders on 151 W. Alder St. in Stockton, California, featuring DJ Manuel C, DJ Frank G, and a special Michael Jackson impersonation performance by QStar.

The design features zombies, witches, demons, vampires, a vampire queen, and Día de los Muertos painted-faced girls. It utilizes the fonts Lycanthrope,Trajan, and Futura in the main section. The Islander’s logo utilizes Hawaiian Punk In addition, Cadeaulx and Century Gothic are found on the DJ Emir Logo tag in the right lower corner.

The Boogie Nights Logo was created utilizing the Lyncanthrope font with multiple layers to emphasize that the word BOOGIE is a play on words BOO-gie by highlighting the “BOO” in gold metalic font color over the eerie goulish green color for “BOOGIE”.

The flyer designs were created by DJ Emir and Extreme Flyer Designs as was the logo design for the DJEmir.com logo.

This natural history classic about animals’ favorite treats includes fascinating facts about tickbirds, gorillas, ostriches, koalas, platypuses, porcupines and other exotic creatures eating habits. Told in amusing rhyming verse and republished with all new illustrations.

Animal Snackers is the first book by Pratt Institute graduate Betsy Lewin (b. 1937). It was published with bread-dough animals (and ITC Souvenir and Cooper Black for the typography) by Dodd, Mead & Company in 1980.

The book was reissued by Henry Holt & Company in hardback in 2004, with revised text and new illustrations by the author, now rendered in brush and ink. Designer Patrick Collins used Bonita for the cover and the headings. Jim Parkinson’s all-caps face from 1996 is set on a bouncing baseline and with a subtle drop shadow. The rhymes are added in Century Gothic.

For the offbeat comedy Late Bloomers, The Fable Agency has designed a richly layered poster with Liam Tooher’s illustrated flowers, pairing Richard Lipton’s timeless Tangier with Century Gothic as a clean, modern counterpoint. Tangier’s boldly graceful letterforms echo the delicate yet resilient story, weaving type and illustration into a narrative that captures the essence of this heartfelt film.

Wholesome Bakery, a San Francisco-based business known for its vegan, gluten-free, and sustainably made treats, blends creativity and clarity in its visual identity. The offbeat nature of OH no Type Co.’s Irregardless lends character to their logo and packaging, reflecting the bakery’s playful yet conscious ethos. It’s supported by Trump Gothic.

On their website, the clean, modern lines of Century Gothic ensure readability and reinforce the approachable, eco-friendly brand presence. Wholesome Bakery recently closed the doors to its brick-and-mortar location but continues to thrive online, with products available at retailers such as Whole Foods.

Himayant Herbal OPC Pvt Ltd is a company based in Purba Bardhaman, West Bengal, India, offering herbal supplements. The fonts used in creating product labels and promotional material include URW’s Z003 (a libre version of ITC Zapf Chancery), DejaVu Serif, ITC Avant Garde Gothic Book BT, Caladea, Carlito, Ubuntu, MathJax Calligraphic, Helvetica, Liberation Sans, Arial, and Century Gothic.

Nod came to Noramble (originally called Mave Care) needing communication help. However, when we dug a little deeper, it was clear that they needed assistance with strategy from the ground up.

Once we had a strong brand core and the difficult conversations, we could make the intangible–tangible. We started with a new name and brainstormed many perspectives. We knew we wanted to create a sense of community with the brand, so we landed on the name NOD. You know, the thing that men do when they sort of know each other and walk past each other in the supermarket.

Once the name was nailed down, we moved on to the visual identity and messaging of the brand. Knowing it was for a male audience, we wanted to keep it simplistic and remove the industry jargon from everything the brand did.

We used a black-and-white color scheme with blue as an accent colour and Century Gothic to help create some impact on the packaging. The logo is based on P22 Underground.

The brand launched in December 2021 and earned media coverage in their local news outlets, creating a massive buzz for their launch. We continue to work with Nod to ensure consistency and growth in everything they do.

Graphics debuted on the Romanian television channel Antena 1 on September 18, 2010 and last seen throughout September 2014. The font used in most of its identity is Century Gothic, while the logo uses a modified adaptation of Neue Helvetica Extended, the latter having been the station’s signature font from 1998 to 2022.

The regular idents were filmed around Băneasa, the station’s former home, precisely at Herăstrău Park. While they didn’t have a prevalent usage of Century Gothic, the Pub and Promo bumpers use the typeface at the left side of the screen.

Poster for a weekend of film screenings and meetings organized by the Météorites collective at the Théâtre de l’Élysée in Lyon, France. The second edition of Pluie de Météorites (“meteorite shower”) took place in March 2022.

Félicité Landrivon used a smorgasbord of fonts for her design, including three typefaces designed as part of the X Cicéro project. Affigere, Rosette and Égyptienne E were made at ESAD Valence, France, digitized from wooden typefaces available in the school’s letterpress printing workshop. “VSD” – which can stand for both “vendredi, samedi, dimanche” (“Friday, Saturday, Sunday”) and for “vidéo sur demande” (“video on demand”) is in caps from Frankfurter, with added horizontal stripes not unlike in Rock Opera.

This is the cover of a print-on-demand edition by Armchair Fiction from 2022, with the more than a dozen original illustrations by Frank R. Paul (1884–1963), cf. the cover of Science Wonder Quarterly. The title typeface is Jim Parkinson’s Showcard Gothic.

Century Gothic in use for the opening titles of Ryan Murphy’s The Prom. The musical comedy stars Meryl Streep, James Corden, Nicole Kidman, Keegan-Michael Key, Andrew Rannells, Ariana DeBose, Kerry Washington, and Jo Ellen Pellman.

No joke, it took a lot of artists to screw in all these lightbulbs. I am hugely grateful to everyone involved for their sparkling talents.

The name of this crispy wafer biscuits with strawberry cream, لوكو , is written using Zawiya Bold. The Latin equivalent, Loco, appears to use matching lettering. The product description is set in Boutros GE SS Two (Arabic) and Optima Bold (English), with various other fonts used for the trilingual list of ingredients and other small print.

The wafer biscuits are produced by Basateen Baladi Food Industry, Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The font used for the company name, بساتين بلادي (Basateen Baladi) is unidentified.

The artist’s name is probably using Capital Ideas 1 NF, whose lowercase letters are modeled after Milton Glaser’s Baby Curls. Century Gothic is used for everything else.

Flyers for Jeremih’s concert at The Gothic Theatre, Denver, Colorado on November 2nd, 2011, with additional guest performances by Ali Pierre, Rockie, and Dre Lane. The flyers were designed by DJ Emir using New Zelek, A Bite, Century Gothic, and Porcelain.

Concept and design for the Father’s Day campaign by Triumph & Disaster, where a bottle opener is the gift with purchase (GWP).

I was commissioned to create the campaign main graphic and different print and digital materials to promote sales and the GWP. The design choices are based in the T&D brand and ’60s and ’70s advertising graphics.

Gurvetica is used for the poster of Ucha Pind, an Indian Punjabi-language film directed by Harjit Singh Ricky, starring Poonam Sood and Navdeep Kaler. The other Gurmukhi font is GHP Full, and the English text is set in all-caps Century Gothic.

Designed in 2009 and supplied in many widths and weights, Gurvetica is a font that is designed to give the Gurmukhi world the clarity and legibility that Helvetica gives the Latin-reading world.

The font is normally available in Gurmukhi and Latin although there are versions that have Gurmukhi in the ASCII range instead of Latin characters, using the phonetic layout that is common in Gurmukhi fonts.

However, there are a number of differences between the Latin version of Gurvetica and Helvetica:

Firstly, Gurvetica is mono-linear – if you want it not to be then you can just stretch it a little bit.

Secondly, as the weight increases the lines grow from the centre of the lines, including from the edges. This is because unlike Latin, where the top and the bottom of the font fit between the baseline and the caps height and as the weight increases, it still fits, Gurmukhi has a bar from which the font grows both upwards and downwards so as the weight increases, the centre of this line stays the same so that an emboldened word does not jump up or fall down relative to the words that surround it; and,

Lastly, the ends of the letters are not always horizontal or vertical as they are with Helvetica – this is simply because if the Gurmukhi characters were forces to adopt this characteristic, the font would become ugly.

Birra Stout’s whimsical forms give a jaunty atmosphere to this year’s Art&Soul identity.

Organized by the NOCCA Institute, the annual gala will bring “a celebration of music, art, and cuisine that champions the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts.” Birra Stout helps to call attention to the event in social media graphics and a TV commercial. The freebie by Darden Studio is used in reverse, often in all caps, prominently featuring its zany ampersand in the logo. It’s paired with Century Gothic.

P.S. Due to the spread of COVID-19, the party had to be cancelled. However, the Art&Soul silent auction – which is conducted online – will proceed as planned.

A collection of essays on music and life by the famed classical pianist and composer, Stephen Hough.

Hough writes informally and engagingly about music and the life of a musician, from the broader aspects of what it is to walk out onto a stage or to make a recording, to specialist tips from deep inside the practice room: how to trill, how to pedal, how to practice. He also writes vividly about people he’s known, places he’s been to, books he’s read, paintings he’s seen; and he touches on more controversial subjects, such as assisted suicide and abortion. Even religion is there—the possibility of the existence of God, problems with some biblical texts, and the challenges involved in being a gay Catholic.

Rough Ideas is an illuminating, constantly surprising introduction to the life and mind of one of our great cultural figures.

Art & Design: Myunghee Kwon

This protest message from Led By Donkeys was ploughed into a field at Manor Farm, Wiltshire, UK. Via Eye magazine, who comments: “That’s what I call big type.”

It’s big indeed: At a cap height of 40 meters (that’s almost 113,386 PostScript points), it’s said to be the largest-ever Brexit protest message. Technically, this is not type, of course, but lettering, built up from several “strokes” made with the rather unusual tool of a plough. I’ll go out on a limb and claim this piece still qualifies for Fonts In Use. To me, it looks like a clear case of lettering derived from a typeface. The typeface that the letterforms were modeled after what appears to be Century Gothic Bold. See the comments for details.

The text card shown towards the end of the clip is set in K-Type’s Keep Calm. This font family is based on the lettering that was used for the now famous World War 2 poster originally designed in 1939.

I’m not a great fan of Century Gothic with its high-waisted P’s and R’s, but I liked this design by Michael Morris, who really made this cover stand out on the new books shelf at the public library. Everyone’s setting type very large to read easily on web pages, but he varied point sizes so that the words advance and recede, supporting the concept of a book about a large cast of characters moving around the world during a span of six decades.
