Designed as italic companion to Schneidler-Mediäval and first cast in 1956, with a full set of alternate swash caps [Schriftenkartei 1958–1971].
Scangraphic’s digital version expands the design to five (italic) weights. Amalthea is also included in the digital families offered as Schneidler or Stempel Schneidler, without its distinct name. The only known digitizations to include the original swash caps are Amalthea Zierbuchstaben (Berthold, discontinued) and OPTISchneidler-Swash (Castcraft, 1990-1991, abandonware).
