Drawn by Eric Gill in 1932 and issued by Monotype in 1936. Different enough from the rest of the Gill Sans family to deserve its own family entry. Gill initially called the design Double Elefans. Released as Kayo, derived from “KO” (i.e. knockout in boxing). Later known as Gill Sans Ultra Bold (Series 442). [Rhatigan]
A condensed was added in 1980 by Letraset. It is available in digital form from ITC (as Gill Kayo Condensed) and Monotype (as Gill Sans Condensed UltraBold).
