Umbra (Ludlow)

The shadow variant of Ludlow’s Tempo. Released in 1932 [McGrew 1993] [Reichardt 2011] or 1935 [Osterer & Stamm 2008]. Very similar to Semplicità Ombra (1933), Gill Sans Shadow No.1 (Monotype Series 406, 1936), and Plastica (Berthold, c. 1936). Not to be confused with Berthold’s Umbra (1932).

American Wood Type Mfg. Co. had a wood type version named Shadow. As of 2023, it is cut by Virgin Wood Type.
