Brown, Bodegón argentino is a restaurant in Adrogué, Buenos Aires.

This branding project has the clear intention of elevating the local voice. Graphic elements referring to fileteado porteño, combined with the Dress font family and a considered color palette, create what feels like the perfect menu for this restaurant.

The different layer options and combinations included in this font family by Typesenses helped the designer reduce detail when the logotype becomes smaller. In full-color display applications, however, the name shines with the ornamental elements the font offers.

Supporting typefaces are House Script (for “Bodegón argentino” and “El gusto del ser Argentinos”), Mendl Serif, and Inter.

Grand Theft Auto Online, likely more known as GTA Online, is a multiplayer game created by Rockstar North and published by Rockstar Games. Originally released on October 1, 2013, for consoles such as the PS3 and Xbox 360 first, and later on the PC platform. The game is available for free to all Grand Theft Auto V (GTA V) owners and can be accessed directly through the settings menu.

In a nutshell, the game revolves around the idea of creating a virtual criminal empire by owning and maintaining multiple businesses, doing heists, and at times, cooperation between players is involved

The main title is set in Pricedown, while the “ONLINE” part is what I suspect to be a modified Bank Gothic, thickened and rounder. I could be wrong; it might be another font

For comparison, Bank Gothic (the yellow text) was manually thickened and stretched to somewhat fit the “ONLINE” proportions. I'd like to point out how the stroke of the letter 'N' from Bank Gothic matches the angle of 'ONLINE'. Both subtext and Bank Gothic share a similar short arm for 'E'

The UI is largely shared with GTA V, making use of Chalet 1960, House Script and Chalet Comprimé 1960.

Style frames from the Criterion Channel's 2024 John Waters film collection. The collection featured the films Hairspray, Female Trouble, Polyester, Cry-Baby, Serial Mom, Multiple Maniacs, Cecil B. Demented, and Desperate Living.

Each month the Criterion Channel releases a handful of curated collections. Each collection getting some stylized typographic treatments used for a teaser trailer and style frames (thumbnails) for the collection as a whole plus a few select films within the collection.

The John Waters collection is branded with lettering in the style of mid-century, hand painted advertising and signage.

The lettering designs feature bold, condensed, sans serif type complimented with various brush script fonts and a few dingbat ornaments.

The large titles use Linotype's Flyer (a.k.a. Filmotype Flyer), while the smaller names and titles use Red Top by Studio K. The brush script fonts used throughout work seamlessly together because they all come from House Industries’ beautifully crafted Sign Painter family. Fonts used from that family include Brush, Script, Upright and Slant [or rather Dom Diagonal Bold, see comments].

In addition to the typography, also peppered in are arrows and underlines from House’s Ad Art (also from the Sign Painter family) and a star ornament found in Gutterball, from House’s Housearama font family.

Grand Theft Auto V is a 2013 action-adventure game developed by Rockstar North and published by Rockstar Games. It is the seventh main entry in the Grand Theft Auto series, following 2008’s Grand Theft Auto IV, and the fifteenth instalment overall. The entire UI uses both Chalet 1960 and Chalet Comprimé 1960, while on some UIs, such as locations and vehicle names, texts are rendered in House Script.

Acier Noir + Acier Outline

Paris Paradis is the name of an annual open-air festival held since 2018 in the Parc de la Villette in the northeast of Paris. It was initiated by Le Parisien, the leading daily newspaper of the French capital when it comes to paid journalism. The festival spans over a weekend from Friday to Sunday and unfolds between two stages dedicated to music performances and the “Cabaret Sauvage” reserved for French humorists. The program and the many activities between the stages are deliberately eclectic: paradise has to offer a space for everyone.

Since its beginnings Paris Paradis uses the combination of a script for “Paris” and modernist all-caps for “Paradis”. This combination is actually reminiscent of French letter painting after 1950. While the script is probably an individual lettering piece based on House Script, the word “Paradis” uses a bichromatic setting of Acier.

Commissioned by Charles Peignot of the famous Deberny & Peignot foundry in Paris, Acier was originally designed by A.M. Cassandre in the 1930s. Yes, that Cassandre. The metal type family had two members, Acier Noir (black) and Acier Gris (gray, filled with thin strokes) that were meant to be printed in two colors on top of each other – If you will, a modular system allowing for many different effects in print.

Being the first to revive Acier for the digital era, Jean-Baptiste Levée not only studied closely the printed specimens but also decided to pick up on the inherent modularity and carry it further. He broke the whole design down into its elemental parts (solid, outlines, strokes) and made them into single fonts that you can recombine at will. This way he extended on Cassandre’s typeface. The digital Acier is available in two optical sizes from Production Type.

E foi assim que eu ea Escuridão ficamos amigas (“And that's how me and the darkness became friends”) is the celebrated second book for children by the Brazilian rapper Emicida. With illustrations and cover design by Aldo Fabrini, the book was released in 2020 by Companhia das Letrinhas and Lab Fantasma.

The book cover displays Swung Note by PintassilgoPrints, making use of the font’s alternate glyphs and interlocking letterforms. The font is used in internal pages as well.

Creative studio Decade from New York City worked with luggage brand Paravel to create their first campaign. The posters use a range of display typefaces, all paired with Paravel’s brand typeface Post Grotesk.

From first to last image, these are Canopée used for “Montauk”; Salvaje Display is used for “Flushing”; “Chinatown” is set in Zangezi Sans; an unidentified fraktur is used for “Sheep’s Meadow”; House Script for “Everywhere’s a trip!” and “Luggage for explorers”; University Roman (or Mecanorma’s version named Celtic) is used for “The Catskills”.

The campaign was New York City-focused, with subway ads and a station takeover of Broadway/Lafayette, as well as placements in MetroNorth and Grand Central, and was brought to life in various print and digital formats. From the Decade website:

Travel is more than a few trips a year to faraway places—looking at the world through the eyes of a traveler means finding adventure everywhere, everyday. To tell this story, the campaign featured local spots made to feel like exotic destinations. With cinematic images, graphic treatments inspired by vintage travel postcards, and tongue-in-cheek reminders that “everywhere’s a trip,” we communicated the sense of humor and imagination at the heart of Paravel’s approach to travel.

Birra Stout is one of the many typefaces used for the typographic illustrations that accompany Amanda Kae Fronk’s article about linguist Mark E. Davies in an issue of BYU Magazine, a quarterly published by Brigham Young University. The whimsical display typeface by Darden Studio was chosen for the words “famous” and “crisis” in the large opening spread. Birra also appears in another graphic with “words about women”. Here it’s used to render the terms “pregnant” and “adult”.

What could you do with a few hundred billion words? A BYU professor is transforming linguistics research, language learning, legal studies, and other fields all over the world.

Among the other repeatedly or prominently used fonts in this smorgasbord are Klavika/Klavika Display (“Big Lang BYU”, “inalienable”, “huge”), Bourton Hand Script (“Flow”, “friendly”), Facebuster (“obesity”), Tungsten (“recession”), Quitador (“Ideal”), Burford Dots (“refugee”), Estilo Script (“creative”), and Archer (“civility”). “Using Davies’s Corpus of Historical American English to compare some of the most common adjectives that appear near the word women in two different time periods – 1810–99 and 1970–2009 – reveals major shifts in attitudes about women and their role in society.” Klavika and Bourton Hand Script are used for the title, Pompadour Numerals, Cooper Black, and an unidentified grotesque for the years [edit: Champion Gothic, see comments].

Isoì is a clothing brand and an independent creative lab, born in 2014. Isoì creates inspired clothing and special handmade stuff, collaborating with agencies and brands (from Vogue Japan to Reebok) to create high profile projects. In 2015, Isoì opened its lab/store in the creative heart of Milan.

The Isoì branding, like the company itself, consists of many different parts. There are two websites, an online shop, and a website introducing the studio/brand, complemented by yet different designs for packaging and stationery. Different fonts are used for for navigation and body copy in both websites (Aileron, Open Sans, Arial), another set of fonts is used for the header images (a.o. House Script and Savoye) and on the business cards and posters, text is set in what appears to be Gotham. Jean-Baptiste Morizot’s Bluu is the typographic rug that ties the room together.

The main logo on the window shop is hand painted, adding smooth corners to Proto Grotesk. This is especially visible in the ‘A’.

Grain Traders is a restaurant that wants to feed people right. Everything about the brand and space had to tell this story in the quick moments people are there for their workday lunch.

We drew inspiration from a variety of places and sources : Anthony Bourdain’s food trips into the Bronx and Queens, alongside flour sacks from the Mid-West and old Puerto Rican posters were key in providing a base for the Grain Traders visual and spatial universe.

Because this concept essentially puts users through a queue, choose and pay process our brief for the space was to make these activities disappear by immersing guests in a authentic atmosphere. This led to special touch points higher than eye level so wherever you are in the space you would not feel left out of the experience. [Parable Studio]

Parable Studio built the logotype and main identity of this Singapore restaurant with Proto Grotesk. Even if the menu on the actual location is hand-painted to add a bit of cachet to the atmosphere, Proto Grotesk is used for everything else, from shop window to stationery and coffee cups. On printed menus, it is paired with a bunch of typefaces from Hoefler & Co. to add an American flavor. Klim Type’s Pitch makes an appearance, too.

As always, Parable are playing with glyphs included in the font that most designers underestimate or forget, and their layouts are full of such typographic details: circled digits, arrows, alternate number set, ornaments …

The menu features a plethora of additional fonts, including Page No. 508 (“Bowls”, with upside-down ‘M’ for ‘W’), Kestrel Script and Local Gothic (“The Beebop”), Vitesse and Neuland (“Mr. Pirom”), Bureau Grot (“Add Ons”), and more.

My 80-percent-white hometown in Arkansas is flying a Black Lives Matter banner downtown. Your move, literally everywhere else.

Arkansas Times:

D’Andre Jones, who heads Compassion Fayetteville's Black Lives Matter team, said the banner was also hung last year, but has noticed much more by passerby and on social media this year. He said a public statement about the value of black lives and black history is particularly important now, given the current political climate in America. "Now more than ever," Jones said, "it's very important that we all stand together and affirm that all lives matter."

Rebrand of an Atlanta donut shop. The House Script logotype has unfortunately been sujected to faux bolding, causing the letters to fill in on themselves. Also note the use of Maple for a company named Maple Donuts – a classic but successful LTypI example!

Core77.com is a design magazine and resource. Its current logo is set in Blaktur (Ken Barber, 2007) – tightly spaced and with a rounded outline. Previous versions included a cursive one in House Script – with a painfully stretched ‘or’ connection, and a Western-style one in Thunderbird – with a slight skew.

Swedish bag retailer Hållbar is using Antenna and Antenna RE on their website (together with Publico in the graphics).
