Te Papa Waka Rererangi o Whakatū – Nelson Airport

Gamay is the new brand typeface by Nelson Airport, New Zealand.

One of the first applications is Te Wiki o te Reo Māori, or Māori Language Week. 2025 marks the fiftieth anniversary of this initiative. Nelson Airport celebrates this milestone with a series of posts on social media platforms.

The campaign introduces visitors to topical words and phrases in Māori. The kupu o te rā (word of the day) is set in Gamay’s Expanded Light weight, while the English translation below uses the Regular Medium. The font family by Darden Studio offers a total of 108 styles across six widths and nine weights, and is also available in variable format.

Inside the airport building, travellers can engage in four wero (challenges) to spark kōrero (conversation) while waiting for their flight. We love this challenge to learn the language of New Zealand’s indigenous population, and are thrilled to see Gamay used for Māori.

Kia pai te haere – Safe journey

A series of six stamps issued by PostNord, the Swedish Postal Service in March 2016, with “mat i Sverige” (food in Sweden) as a theme. The typography is by Gustav Mårtensson, who has been a designer for the stamps of the Swedish Post Office for many years. As previously shown on Fonts In Use, Mårtenson has a soft spot for using type by Letters from Sweden, and this series is no exception. This time, the stamps show Trim, a sturdy sans with flat sides in all characters. Shortly after this series of stamps, the foundry added another flat sided sans to their collection: Mikro.

The (custom?) typeface used for small print with information is yet unidentified. It shows (semi)serifs on characters like P and L, and a distinct N with a diagonal that lands halfway the letter’s second vertical.

The illustrations are the star of the show, and were made by Veronica Ballart Lilja. Each stamp depicts various types of food that can be enjoyed in Sweden. Most stamps depict traditional food – just not traditional Swedish foods. There is pasta from Italy, Japanese sushi, there are Mexican tacos, and burgers form the US; shish kebab from the middle east and a selection of Nordic food: herring, potatoes, crisp bread, cheese, chives and egg.

Ciutadella (Emtype Foundry) and Trim (Letters From Sweden) in use for the identity/website of Capdesk, a platform that helps unlisted companies manage equity. The company focuses on progressive finance, advanced technology and solving tough human problems. Capdesk's mission is to create an easy-to-use shareholding tool for both companies and investors.

Notch is an app that keeps track of scores for any kind of game. The app uses the strong and compact Trim for big type, such as scores, and San Francisco (the iOS system font) for small type. On the website and blog Adelle Sans is the text face.

Maybe Florian and I can keep track of how many Uses we each moderate each day on Fonts In Use. Fortunately he doesn’t have an iPhone so I am spared the embarrassment of seeing that particular personal deficit quantified.

Predicated on real science, Director Ridley Scott and Production Designer Arthur Max drew on the expertise of specialists at NASA and the European Space Agency, and asked Territory to craft the screen graphics and UI that would be needed.

Trim Poster and Trim is effectively used in the Swedish book Effektiv Kommunikation designed by Helena Lager.

Strichpunkt is Autostadt’s new corporate communications partner and is also advising on the development of the communications strategy and corporate design. Since January, the Autostadt journal has been produced every two months in Strichpunkt’s Berlin offices, alongside other publications. Strichpunkt won the pitch with a concept that creates a distinctive look for AUTOSTADT, transports it to an open communications platform of the Volkswagen Group with a perspective far beyond the issue of mobility, and also reflects the high-quality standard of the content on a visual level. — strichpunkt-design.de

The New Republic magazine did a special piece about the future of US President Barack Obama. For the printed magazine and the iPad app they selected Trim as a guest typeface. See also this post about the magazine’s main typefaces.

New website for Appsters uses Trim Poster in combination with Siri Core.

The wordmark is set with Trim Bold and the crab “Ray” also got a little trimmed.

Lassila & Tikanoja is a service company that cooperates with its customers to transform our consumer society into an efficient recycling society. They operate in Finland, Sweden, Latvia and Russia. For branding and advertising they use Trim Regular and Trim Bold together with a customized headline version of Trim Bold. The identity was carried out by Matt Squire, formerly of Motley.

Cold Hawaii PWA World Cup consists of 48 of the World’s best male windsurfers, all of whom compete for both cup points and the title as World Champion in Wave Performance.

Pepparkakor is the Swedish version of a gingerbread cookie, often served around Christmas time.

The latest issue of Form, a magazine for Nordic architecture and design, invited Trim as guest typeface.

“Vart är vi på väg?” translates to “Where are we headed?.” It could be a politically charged question, or perhaps just a reference to a popular Swedish game show. Trim SemiBold was used to make a custom stencil for spraypaint purposes.

Trim is used on Thijs van der Vossen’s website. Selected styles are Light and Medium.
