Throughout the 20th century, artists have imagined the body and ideas of the self as fluid and open to ongoing transformations. The exhibition Vital Signs: Artists and the Body included over 100 works by artists who’ve questioned what we think we know about our physical selves and our place in the world.

For the exhibition identity we wanted to create a feeling of energy and movement, and embody a design that was gender-expansive, bold and full of life. The entryway for the exhibition was painted in an active yellow with green undertones. The bright color made a statement—catching visitors’ attention and setting a mood when entering the space. The strong title was set in Girott and painted in two contrasting metallic colors, a warm deep brown and a silver-blue. We opted for metallic as this activated the type by making it responsive to the light in the space and to the position of the viewer, creating a feeling of constant movement. The texts throughout the exhibition were set in Jungka, a warm and rhythmical font that helped establish an inviting atmosphere for the exhibition.

The artwork that spanned the loggia walls, Misdirected Kiss by artist Martine Syms, was produced by MoMA Design Studio to especially fit this space. The work originated as a performative lecture where Syms told a story about movement, gesture, and language through observations about Black female performers both in the media and her own life.

The fonts in use are Girott (by Radim Peško, RP Digital Foundry) for headers and Jungka (by Karel Martens and Jungmyung Lee, Jung Lee Type Foundry) for body text.

Hard Pack is a new biannual publication which aims to subvert the traditional representation of ski, using the sport as a lens through which to understand fashion, art, nature, sociology, and culture.

Founded by Zach Seely, with creative direction and design by Soon Services, using a combination of Girott and Rhymes Display for headlines, Rhymes Text and Maxeville for the body copy, and a dash of Fugue Mono for captions.

Pase Platform is a cultural organization that explores, thinks of and takes on new art languages. This booklet presents the main projects developed by their team as well as the new program of residency and research based on their soundscape technology.

Zerozoro designed the visual identity combining different forms and objects from their musical and technological environment. Girott is used for headlines and paired with two swidths of GT America.

Presented as an exhibition at Te Uru and as this publication, MOTUTAPU is:

the conclusion of a four-year journey by artist Benjamin Work and photographer Brendan Kitto. This project looks at the shared history of Motutapu (sacred island) throughout Moana Oceania – including Tongatapu, Rarotonga and at the entrance to the Waitematā Harbour here in Tāmaki Makaurau. Motutapu is a place of sanctuary. [...]

Work and Kitto’s inquiry into Motutapu was initially centred around the shared name. What soon became apparent was a deeper connection to their own hohoko/ʻakapapa (genealogy) as they travelled to three of the Motutapu locations and connected with key knowledge holders. Motutapu has become a metaphor for Work and Kitto as a starting point for these personal journeys. Through Work’s paintings and Kitto’s photographs of their journeys, combined with the introductions to the three Motutapu locations by Pita Turei, Paul Johansson and Stan Wolfgramm the book offers, for the extended diaspora of Moana Oceania, a way for reconnection and reconciliation and as a reminder of what joins communities across time and space.

From cover to interior, all typography is set with the two styles (Regular and Bold) of Girott, designed by Radim Peško.

Trend Mook is a design magazine created for the September 2018 edition of interior design fair Maison&Objet in Paris. Themed “Virtuous”, this issue was designed to be a tool of stimulation, analysing current trends and exploring major evolutions in society.

The publication was designed by deValence, using Kellar for titles, supported by Girott. The text typeface is Quadraat, with F Grotesk for pull quotes, captions, and the like.

To mark the 125th anniversary of its foundation, La Biennale di Venezia conceived the exhibition Le Muse Inquieté / The Disquieted Muses. When La Biennale di Venezia Meets History, an exhibition by the Historical Archives of Contemporary Arts (ASAC), held in the Central Pavilion of the Giardini della Biennale from the 29th of August 29 to the 8th of December 8 2020.

This is the first exhibition to be curated by all the Artistic Directors of La Biennale’s six Departments. Cecilia Alemani (Art), Alberto Barbera (Cinema), Marie Chouinard (Dance), Ivan Fedele (Music), Antonio Latella (Theatre) and Hashim Sarkis (Architecture).

The book is proposed not only as a catalog of the exhibition, but also as an independent volume that makes explicit the great variety and complexity of relationships existing between the materials on display and the different historical/social events. A complexity told with a dynamic and composite layout, enclosed in a very light and unpretentious book object, which “speaks” more of the archive than of celebration.

The bold typography of the section spreads set in Girott is counterbalanced by the use of Or Lemmen for all the smaller text.

Twenty-five interviews, twenty-five funny and unexpected stories, twenty-five of the greatest masters of photography of the twentieth century interviewed by the photoeditor Giovanna Calvenzi, who in the 80s, for Il Fotografo magazine, made these small talks. All accompanied by the often intimate and unexpected photographs of Calvenzi herself.

The whole book plays on the value of the masters interviewed and their names, enhancing it with a peremptory and expressive typography set in Girott (designed by Radim Peško). Body text uses Suisse Works.The masters interviewed include Erwitt, Kertész, Giacomelli, Klein, Lartigue, Sieff, Toscani, Doisneau, Berengo Gardin among many others. Here Magazine is the travel magazine by Away Travel Luggage that tells compelling, thoughtful and unique travel stories through the lens of local, creative, and influential people. The magazine is designed by Chloe Scheffe and uses a wide array of typefaces like Girott Bold by Radim Pesko, News Plantin, GT America and GT Zirkon. French studio deValence designed the Trend Mook for this year’s edition of the Maison&Objet design fair in Paris. The publication serves both as the magazine of the event and as trend book for objects of daily use. The illustrations have been made by Jochen Gerner and Jeremy Perrodeau. The expressive Coline Extrême is used for titles, sometimes even exclusively in capitals – which is uncommon for this type of cursive font –, balanced with the condensed Girott. The text typefaces include Quadraat and an unidentifed sans serif.

Meloman is a magazine published by the Moscow Philharmonic. This is Issue No. 2, summer 2018. On the cover: composer Alexander Wustin by Anisia Kuzmina. Layout and art direction by Kirill Gluschenko. 192 pages, 168×240 mm, in Russian.

The magazine logo uses Scotch Modern. Body copy is set with Kazimir Text and Girott is used in many forms and sizes ranging from section openers and drop caps to quotes etcetera.
