A photocompositor typeface collaboratively designed by Herb Lubalin and John Pistilli. It was first shown in 1964.
Sold by Lettergraphics as Roman No. 1 (1968) and by Mecanorma as Estella.
Eloquent (Jason Walcott) and OPTI Pirogi (Castcraft Software) are two digital interpretations of the face. Claude Pelletier’s freebie digiziation under the original name – “recreated Pistilli with John Pistilli’s son’s ‘blessing’” [Dafont] – is not very well spaced. In 2022, Morisawa released a Pistilli Pro. See also Didoni.
