WPA Gothic was my only venture into type design (if you can call it that). I embarked on a week-long, half-assed effort simply to test FontStruct and add something to the inventory when we launched the site back in 2008. It’s a very flawed and incomplete font, but sometimes it works. I think it does here, as an alternate logo (inspired by the California flag) for a San Francisco boba tea shop. Boba Guys have a “real” logo, but I think Avenir is kinda dull in comparison. Sorry, Guys! Your blog is fantastic, though. Now I need to try the tea.

Aesthetic Apparatus:

Crafters Local 612 cordially invited us to create their image for this year's No Coast Craft-O-Rama. It's a two day craft fair held here in Minneapolis and attracts some of Minnesota's bestest and craftiest.

The typeface is WPA Gothic, a font I whipped up in Fontstruct, the online editor that makes it easy to make simple, modular type like this. Seeing WPA Gothic in use reminds me that I need to make some major adjustments. The ‘R’, for example, is way too easy to mistake for an ‘A’.
