Design started in 1999, spanning five styles – Unicase, Regular, Alternate, Caps, Italic – in different widths, making for a total of 70 fonts. One style, Garaje 53 Unicase Black, was made available for free by 256tm in 2007.

The complete family was released with 205TF in January 2020, spanning 445 styles, including Garaje Mono. By 2024, it was expanded to 17 subfamilies with a total of 533 styles: Garaje Cond A, B, C, D, and E; Garaje Mid; Garaje Multi (width automatically increases for each entered lc character); Garaje Wide A and B; and the variable Garaje Total. The Condensed styles are the only ones to include lowercase forms.
