Designed by Ed Benguiat, apparently loosely modeled after Walhalla (Klinkhardt, ca. 1900), or after an untitled set of capitals shown in J.M.Bergling’s Art Alphabets and Lettering (1914). Discotheque is shown in 1971 in threeweights plus Outline and Contour variants [PLINC One Liner 1971], but not yet in 1965 [PLINC 1965]. Used already in 1967.
Lettergraphics shows a virtually identical face in a single medium weight as Joe in a 1974 ad and a catalog [Lettergraphics 1968–1975]. Also shown as Sheeba with a low-waisted ‘H’. [Solo 1992]
