Dutch interior design studio Format offers “innovative, no-nonsense custom interior and spatial solutions for people with a keen eye for craft and function”.

Having already established the foundations of their brand identity, we were brought in to take things further, refining and adding an extra dose of energy to their already solid foundation. Inspired by the precision and order of architectural plans and drawings, the branding’s layout principles follows a flexible grid system, which, while seemingly simple, offers a variety of formats and layouts to play with.

Drawing on Format’s work, the bold new brand typeface – Relative Faux by Colophon – is straight-forward and timeless. Chosen above all else for its functionality and legibility, the typeface has a complementary architectural character that acts as a subtle hint to the firm’s work and industry. Small sized text uses the proportionally spaced Relative.

In a field rife with overwhelmingly complex data and lofty solutions, CarbonPlan creates tools and resources to “improve the transparency and scientific integrity of climate solutions.” We developed a brand optimized for data visualization and comprehension with a touch of cheeky geek.

The brand employs the use of Colophon’s Relative, a typeface family split into two halves. The proportional Relative and the fixed-width Relative Mono, plus their lovechild – a “faux” monospace. The CarbonPlan brand employs all of these versions to create a rich typographic hierarchy. Relative Mono is used for labels and infographics, the proportional family is used for body copy and headlines, and the faux is used for captions and other brief patches of text.

The spacing of Relative is “relatively” (sorry) loose, perfect for body copy. When set at large point sizes, negative values are used for tracking/letter spacing. On the contrary, the faux mono’s spacing is fairly tight, requiring positive tracking in this identity.

Visual identity and website design for Switch, “the artificial intelligence platform that improves urban mobility through data.”

In September 2022 we faced a last minute challenge: to help the startup Switch creating a new visual identity to be presented 30 days later, in a funding event. We immediately aimed for a sleek, hyper contemporary tech look: minimal, geometrical but rich in small details.
The logo takes inspiration from the circular areas that the company uses to delimit portions of the city, according to various and specific parameters. The use of circles is the recurring mantra of Switch’s brand identity, starting from the logo: a custom lettering drawn on a 4 units tall grid.
The website reflects the brand personality: a self-confident, accurate and young startup.

This reference book gathers some of the most influencing and most groundbreaking web design projects since the launch of the WWW (World Wide Web) in the early 1990s. The neat graphic package of the book is endorsed by the use of two members of the Relative family from Colophon Foundry. Relative Mono is used for headlines and folio, while the body copy is set in the proportional sans Relative. The typographic contrast is assured by using Monotype Walbaum for quotes.

Qūentin Café from Mexico City is using the typeface Motorino for its logotype. Motorino was designed by Andrei Robu for Typeverything.

The client came to Carosello Lab in July 2018 with the idea of creating a new men’s hair care brand: they only had the products and a price list. From our research, we envisioned a very scientific brand balanced by a sexy, stylish design. We created the name “The Hair Bureau” and the payoff “The science of results”. We built the identity around the idea of a laboratory, where scientists work non-stop to find the right combination of ingredients to prevent hair loss. The packaging itself symbolizes an office desk where all research results are arranged together.

The sharp and bold Blacker (Zetafonts) was chosen for the company logotype. It elegantly recalls contemporary newspaper fonts, adding credibility to the brand identity.

For titles and body copy we employed Relative and Relative Mono by Colophon Foundry. The typefaces work nicely in small sizes and convey a perfect balance of elegance and technical precision. The typographic identity was consistently employed for all printed and digital expressions of the brand.

Nylon lifestyle magazine covers fashion, art, beauty, music, design, celebrities, and technology. As part of Nylon’s updated digital identity, the online magazine platform and social media graphics use Post Grotesk as a primary typeface for headlines and Relative Mono for body text.

Swedish studio Amanda & Erik designed an exhibition about local architecture, entitled En annan landsbygd (“Another countryside”) and presented at the Rian designmuseum in Falkenberg, Sweden. The display typeface is Trabis (A is for…, 2019). It’s paired with the sans-serif Visuelt and Relative Mono (both designed by The Entente for Colophon) [identified by Akira Yoshino, see comments].
