Designer Flavia Zimbardi says: “When my friend (and @womenintype.xyz collaborator) @tidatep asked if I could customize Melindrosa for a @tidalmag article, I couldn’t say no. especially after learning it would be about Brazilian artist @tadaskia first solo exhibition at MoMA so I hope you like this diacritics play as much as I did—opposite from most solutions that make accents as small as possible, the acutes are the focal point here, connected in a single diagonal—supporting the angularity in the beautiful shot by @ariellebobbwillis.”

Zoo from Blaze Type plays a pivotal role in the visual identity of Good Tempo Records, a Brooklyn-based record label and event promoter, designed by Atelier Soleil Soleil.

Atelier Soleil Soleil, a French studio based in Lyon and founded by Alain Papazian and Paul Andali, specializes in art direction, graphic design, and typography. For the Good Tempo Records project, they chose the Zoo typeface by Quentin Colombier, which effectively blends sharpness and roundness, delicateness and strength, to resonate with the label's vibrant music scene.

Inspired by the lettering on the vinyl sleeves of a French jazz band named Zoo, the typeface's asymmetrical distribution of shapes creates a lively, dynamic character, perfectly suited for the graphic expression of Good Tempo Records. This typography encapsulates the energy and creativity of the label, reinforcing its identity in the competitive landscape of music and events.

Zoo is used alongside Newlyn’s New Spirit and Typedifferent’s BD Cashbox.

New brand identity and product labels for SoSS, a hot sauce company based in Charlottesville, VA. The logo, brand identity, and core product labels were designed by West Virginia-based design studio Big Fog. Label illustrations for Reaper's Blush and Watermelon Dragon by Alex Luciano and Meel Tamphanon, respectively.

The SoSS logotype is a customized Zoo Condensed with thicker thin strokes, softer corners, and stylized strokes under the O. The brand identity utilizes VC Henrietta for display and headlines, Swear Medium for subheadlines, and Degular as a supporting text face.

Monaako by Altiplano Typefaces for Pampa.

Tribe, the new Hoff sneaker collection (summer 2021) features typographic compositions on the soles designed by Naranjo-Etxeberria Studio with “fonts from typographers and foundries we admire”.

At Minds of Tomorrow, a world-class daycare in Miami, the goal is to empower young creative minds to shape their future, with design and technology as the core of the innovative programs for ages 5 to 13.

The typeface’s intrinsic sci-fi character was probably a decisive factor for the choice of Antipol. In combination with energetic colours, it creates a thoroughly playful atmosphere, good to inspire action and spark creativity.

Identity for the web series Falta de Noção (“lack of notion”) by Portuguese comedian Ricardo Couto, pairing the horizontal-contrast caps from Zoo with illustration and graphic patterns.

Super High Right Now is a psychedelic band from the San Francisco Bay Area. For their 2019/2020 concert season, I collaborated with artist Maya Meissner to create a series of posters that combine collage images, typography, and extremely vibrant color combinations.

Cover for “So Gone” by Tanukichan, released on the record label Sonic Cathedral as part of their 7-inch single subscription club. The typeface in use is Zoo by Blaze Type.

Front cover features a distorted version, with a repeat pattern from the Extended and Condensed weights on the inside of the sleeve. The sans serif used on the back and the labels is Gothic 725 Black (Bitstream’s version of Akzidenz-Grotesk), and the photo of the artist is by Jacob Romero.

Centre label design

A group of five white trucks is parked in the monumental Výstaviště Praha Holešovice – Central Hall of the Industrial Palace in Prague. Usually this is the kind of vehicle that transports works of art to an exhibition. Here, as a part of the Prague Quadrennial, the trucks themselves are the exhibition space.

Inside, loading space is repurposed as display cabinet and cinema; on the outside, designers Matěj Činčera and Jan Kloss left no possibility unused to brand the vehicles with vibrant red typography. From the installation art itself and the type on the roof to number plates and the obligatory Wondertree air freshener: the high contrast Zoo (designed by Quentin Coulombier and available from Blaze Type) is used throughout. Its offbeat shapes are counterbalanced by straightforward typography with programme information, using Akzidenz-Grotesk.

The Performance Space Exhibition showcases a wide range of possibilities for theatre architecture. From found and transformed spaces to major national projects to temporal outdoor structures, especially those in remote or complicated areas where the creators of the space might not be architects.

Contemporary performances take place in many spaces outside of traditional theatres, and these can be just as exciting and valid as those in traditional multifunctional performing arts structures made exclusively by architectural firms. The buildings and spaces that come alive for a performance are complex organisms fusing together ancient traditions with new important views.

No matter how beautiful or complex a piece of stunning architecture might be, without a connection to the community and the dialogue between the creator and artists using the space, the result might be a lifeless shell of a building.

Designing this poster was a result of a series of observations and reflections about “the idea of success”. To me, success is not measured in money and status, but in how people express and encourage tolerance, openness, love, compassion, caring, empathy and inclusiveness. The human race needs more of this in order to sustain itself. Zoo was used for the list, paired with Futura for small text.

A poster designed for a workshop by Collected Works at the School of Visual Arts / MFA Design program, using Zoo by Blaze Type. The (small) sans serif type is Mier B by General Type, part of the corporate identity of the SVA MFA Design, recently designed by OCD.
