An open-source interface font family. First released in August 2017 as Interface and soon after renamed to Inter UI, to avoid confusion with InterFace (Dalton Maag, 2007). The “UI” suffix was dropped in February 2019. Not to be confused with Inter (Latinotype, 2017). While Roboto was referenced during development, [Andersson 1, 2] Inter is also similar to San Francisco.
Since its release, Inter has been updated several times. With contributions by multiple designers, the family has been expanded with italics, extended language support and symbols. In 2022, Inter Tight was released: a copy of Inter with tighter spacing. This version was used as a basis for Guggenheim Sans in 2023.
