In August 2016, the local government in Mexico City launched an international competition for the construction of the most important public space project in recent decades due to its location, size and social impact. The project, done by Gaeta Springall, is located on a section of the railway between Mexico City and Acapulco, built in 1898. The railway is no longer working, except in a 7 km section where the project is sited. The train still passes three times a day, constituting a singular presence in the park. For many years the right of way was a residual space. People used it, although it was never consolidated as a qualified public space because it did not have the necessary conditions of security, infrastructure and landscape.

The logo is based on Bodoni; Two widths of the Emtype’s Geogrotesque collection are used for most typography: Geogrotesque and Geogrotesque Condensed Series. On the website, Korean text is set in Pretendard (프리텐다드).

Sportsyear is a sports data company based in Sydney, Australia. Their knowledge and passion for sport allows them to maintain the world's leading global sports calendar, which they use to help those serious about sport plan it right. In 2018 they launched the Sportsyear Engine: a digital platform that helps venues get more out of their live sport offer.

Point of No Return is a documentary directed by Noel Dockstader and Quinn Kanaly. The film’s promotion uses Geogrotesque throughout. From the official website:

Geogrotesque is the typeface used for the identity of Marvel Stadium:

Located in the heart of Melbourne, Marvel Stadium has welcomed more than 42 million fans through the gates since opening in 2000. Renowned for regularly staging AFL, A-League and BBL action under the famous retractable roof, Marvel Stadium has also hosted some of the biggest international sporting events such as UFC, Soccer World Cup Qualifiers, International Rugby Union tests and USA Basketball versus Australian Boomers in 2019. Throughout its years, Marvel Stadium has hosted many memorable concerts for some of the world’s biggest stars including U2, Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift, Foo Fighters, Justin Timberlake, AC/DC, Bon Jovi, Andre Rieu and Eminem.

Spitex is a non-profit organization that acts as interlocutor and point of contact for authorities, health professionals and the media. As an industry association, they “promote the professional development of community nursing services”.

Geogrotesque is used in tracked-out caps for the logo of Blue Moon. The crew-carrying lunar lander was unveiled in 2019 by Blue Origin, a company founded in 2000 by Jeff Bezos. From blueorigin.com:

Released in 2017, The Source is Tony Allen’s debut full-length album for Blue Note Records, following the 4-track EP A Tribute to Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers.

The cover was designed by Rebecca Meek, with photography by Bernard Benant. The fat unicase font is Matrona, a winner in TDC’s 2010 Typeface Design competition. Hubert Jocham describes his design as “a very very very bold headline”. He comments on the background:

When letterpress started with the Gutenberg bible, the typeface was like a texture. Before humanism type did not really need to be legible. The letters were rather drawn in an ornamental way. It filled a space. My idea for Matrona was to create a similar structure. I wanted it to be very bold and still as legible as possible. The result was a headline typeface that can fill almost all the space. You can even fill it with a picture. Or you create an ornament with contents.

Matrona comes in three optical sizes, with slightly less delicate counters and notches for the smaller styles. In some regards, like the hefty weight and the common height of uppercase and lowercase glyphs, it reminds me of Jeremy Tankard’s Shire Types. While Matrona is a biform face, i.e. with two distinct forms at least for some letters, the Shire Types are unicase: The five different yet related members all have a single form for each letter. Matrona maximizes the reduction of the white, without becoming blocky like Fit or Assai.

Each year ESPN magazine dedicates an issue to the statistics of the NBA. Octobre designed by Philippe Apeloig and developed by Nouvelle Noire is featured as the main typeface for the titling throughout the illustrations.

The other typefaces are part of ESPN magazine’s default type palette: various widths and weights of Emtype Foundry’s Geogrotesque / Geogrotesque Condensed Series, Hoefler & Co’s Tungsten (used for the big numbers on these spreads), and a serif typeface that is shown too small in these images to be recognizable.

From the XXL lettering on the brewer’s premises to the nutritional facts on the bottles, Geogrotesque and its narrower styles from the Geogrotesque Condensed Series are paired with ITC Century – Tony Stan’s 1970s cut of Century Expanded.

By 2019, there are almost 50 Elevation Burger joints (over 25 in the USA, plus 20 in Bahrain and Qatar). Its current branding shows a sun shining on mountains, with the name of the restaurant set in all caps Geogrotesque. All other output uses Sentinel, paired with a changing selection of script typefaces. This new look, created by Pentagram partner DJ Stout, is gradually replacing Elevation’s old all-blue identity.

XRDS, formerly Crossroads, is the flagship academic magazine for student members of the Association for Computing Machinery, or ACM. Issues focus on computer science topics and are published quarterly in both print and electronic forms. The magazine is distributed to tens of thousands of students worldwide. The magazine was relaunched in Summer 2010. Since Volume 16, No. 4, XRDS uses the design developed by Luke Hayman and Rami Moghadam of Pentagram, featuring Eduardo Manso’s Geogrotesque alongside Fred Smeijers’ Arnhem.

This GovLoop guide provides high-level information about how the U.S. DoD workforce is prepping for the future and the rationale behind the four main IT initiatives moving into 2020: Force of the Future, Joint Information Environment (JIE), Defense Innovation Unit Experimental (DIUx), and United States Cyber Command (CYBERCOM). The black and white design, using Geogrotesque and Geogrotesque Stencil throughout, is inspired by control centers equipped with cutting-edge technology.

Because all GovLoop guides other than the Pocket Guide series are full-page, using wire-o binding is not feasible for the cost. Therefore all GovLoop publications use ‘perfect binding’. For this guide, I convinced the design and finance teams to produce a limited edition of brochures with ring binding along with the regular printed edition and a pdf download.
