The logo for NYC-based clothing brand and skateboard shop, Supreme, is a direct imitation of a typographic style established by Barbara Kruger in her artwork.
Despite the fact that their branding and many of their clothing graphics are themselves an imitation of someone else’s style, Supreme has filed lawsuits against others, claiming they are infringing on their intellectual property.
When asked what she thought of the situation, Barbara Kruger replied:
What a ridiculous clusterfuck of totally uncool jokers.
I make my work about this kind of sadly foolish farce.
I’m waiting for all of them to sue me for copyright infringement.
