Fascinating finds, thank you so much Stephen and Fonts In Use for showing us the secrets we would possibly never find. Our typography posters at jozefSquare are yours to observe, we would be only happy if you’ll ever decide to explore another one. We adore poster artists from Czechoslovakia, if only poster artists!! We will try to move your valuable information in our poster blog when will have some time.
Just one thought in regard to the misaligned registration. Communism in Czechoslovakia was really rotten, it actually had nothing to do with any sort of philosophy, it was proper stagnation influenced by our eastern neighbours. Stagnation to the effect that poster designers were praying that their original designs would end up in the hands of a good printer, as in those times doctors were cleaners and cleaners were doctors. Prosecutions were frequent and fairly severe — Milan Kundera, Bohumil Hrabal and also many poster artists (thinking about it, the majority of the ones we’ve written about in our poster blog so far). Everyone was annoyed and lazy. Luckier poster designers would have their own old time favourite printer, but that was rather a rarity. We need to find out more about this.
