Designed by Stefan Klein and Olaf Neumann, Germany’s first 5-euro coin is accurately described by Nina Stössinger as “science fiction space cash with see-through sparklything (and undead-looking eagle)”. The type is FF Isonorm, futher reinforcing the cold retrofuturism.

The basis for the illustration may come from Wolfgang Doehm’s 5-mark coin (1975–2001), but both sides are so much stronger in that piece.
