A new look for TIME magazine emerged in 2015. Proforma and Franklin Gothic were mostly replaced. Typographer Kent Lew chose Duplicate Ionic for headlines and created a custom typeface, Haffner, for body copy. Here is a link to more information on the magazine’s redesign.

The "link to more information” appears to be dead.

  2. Thanks, Riccardo. I’ve replaced it with a link to an archived version.

  3. What is the font used for the number 100 in The 100 Most Influential People?

  4. Hi Red, I’m assuming you are asking about this year’s edition.

I think it’s not a font, but custom drawn to go with the TIME logo. The logo has been redrawn several times over the course of the decades, but my understanding is that it’s always been custom. The current version with bold stems, lighter horizontals, and thin, unbracketed serifs has similar features as typefaces like ITC Tyfa. Weiß-Initialen No. 3 (digital as Wellsbrook Initials SG Heavy) additionally has the M with splayed legs and pointed tops. However, those are just approximations, not the actual fonts in use, and I’m afraid they won’t help you with emulating the “100”.
