The artist Dietmar Brixy develops his works by applying thick layers of paint. For the catalog, Liquid created a cover which, with the help of typography, picks up the “3-dimensionality” of the paintings. The brush structure is highlighted by a partially glossy relief varnish with a strong haptic differentiation. — Liquid

The mentioned typography uses the Line style from Jacques Le Bailly’s Macula family. This “impossible typeface” takes inspiration from the Penrose triangle and the works of Dutch graphic artist M.C. Escher. It comes with two variants for each character, see I and R in this cover. Read more about Macula in Yves Peters’ review for Typographica’s Favorite Typefaces of 2012.

Published on the occasion of the anniversary exhibition TEN – Ten Years Art in the Old Pumping Station, Neckarau. Edited by Jürgen Krieger. With contributions by Dr. Ulrike Lorenz, Christoph Tannert, Dr. Reinhard Spieler, Volker Lehmkuhl, Werner Tammen. 27.5×30 cm, 204 pages.
