Rustic Pathways Groups sends high school classes on incredible, inspiring trips to over 20 countries. Their photography is exceptional, so we needed a modest, hardworking typeface that would add flavor without competing. Their programs take place around the world and in a variety of settings, meaning the type had to be adaptable enough to pair with any background.

We chose Sailec by Type Dynamic. It carries a youthful, tech-centric vibe with the obvious relationship to Spotify and AirBNB’s Circular. It has just the right amount of punch and complements the visuals of the site perfectly.

Since it works well for both display text and body copy, we chose not to integrate another prominent typeface. Our accent font is Pitch by Kris Sowersby, which works perfectly for metadata and within map modules to provide a sense of travel and adventure. Overall, we are thrilled with how these typefaces have performed. In such a minimal aesthetic, the type really gets a chance to shine.

Thanks for your contribution, Ty, and especially for sharing your thoughts about the criteria for choosing the fonts! Glad you mentioned the “obvious relationship” of Sailec (2014) to LL Circular (2013). May I ask what made you go with the former? To me, Sailec looks like an emulation of inferior quality. Like most of the offerings of the anonymous Type Dynamic outlet, it would benefit from a more original voice.
