Technically, “Treffpunkt” (meeting point) needs to be spelled with a lowercase ‘p’ (hyphens are often omitted in display sizes). However, a descender would have messed up the tightly stacked lines.
The depicted telecommunications tower once was the highest of its kind in Germany. It is also known as Florian.
The design credit probably stands for ACON, Gesellschaft für Werbung und Kommunikation, an agency active in the 1970s and 1980s in Cologne.
Over on Flickr, Mike Ashworth posted the cover of the Dortmund Information guide book, published by the City of Dortmund in 1974. It likewise uses Gill Kayo. The design is credited to E. Schackmann. Are they responsible for the Treffpunkt poster as well? I’d say it’s at least possible.
