With increasing globalisation, and the growth of multicultural societies in the United Arab Emirates, the country could be considered in the state of cultural fusion, which can be described as a state where a country with several heterogenous societies becomes more homogenous.

Ghayr is a social initiative designed to shed light upon how an individual is likley to shape their identity based on their locality and residence. The focal point of the social initiative is to engage the audience and the readers to reflect upon the similarities between the various cultures present in the UAE. Ghayr (غير) meaning “outsider” in Urdu and “but” in Arabic, is an annual exhibition/experience that is supported by an editorial issue. Ghayr is structured around the theme of migration for its first edition.
