  1. Nope, not Big Caslon. The book is © 1965, but Matthew Carter didn’t release Big Caslon till 1995.

  2. Good catch, Chris! It is a big Caslon, but not Carter’s Big Caslon. It could be a phototype version based on Caslon 540, but I’ll have to check. Among digital options, Elsner+Flake’s New Caslon B comes closest, but unfortunately they don’t provide much information about the source (“designed by Mannesmann Scangraphic GmbH, 1992”).
