The sleeve design for the Italian release of Ginger Baker’s Air Force’s 1970 hit single is purely typographic. It combines Hermann Zapf’s Saphir (or Sapphire, 1953) and Fred Lambert’s Compacta (1963). About the only thing that these two typefaces have in common is the fact that they were produced by Letraset as dry-transfer sheets. The tight-not-touching spacing is typical for this lettering technique. While it becomes Compacta, the decorated Fat Face looks quite crammed.
