Bond Conference 2018 website
I have no doubts BackerKit, one of the larger crowdfunding platforms, provide a great service. Their website however, is deflatingly boring and generic, featuring the corporo-googlized fun-fun-fun of Open Sans all and everywhere. This year, the company is putting together a conference called Bond, “focus[ed] on the realities of running your creative practice as a business on the internet”. And oh my, the website they made of that — a beaut!
A single page website built around Lisa Tegtmeier’s amazing illustration, art director Andy McMillan crafts a tapestry in warm pink, a gesture of caring swoon. The type is colorful and energetic, centered around Schick Toikka’s Chap. The interplay between flowing calligraphic bodies and sharp counterforms creates an amazing dynamic with Tegtmeier’s illustration. Basic Sans plays the straight man, a role it preforms admirably, echoing the layout’s flowing textures with its curled terminals.
