Lucky in all lowercase! Note the cute accento grave tucked away to the side of u. The double l is actually a double t – apparently the designer preferred the glyph with the angled top over the flat-top one (Lucky’s t doesn’t have a bar).

This is the debut single by Italian singer-songwriter Gianni Bella (b. 1947) from 1974. Bell-bottoms, plume hat, and Lucky in orange … is there anything worthier of our 1970s tag? Spotted in Büro Destruct’s fascinating Flickr stream with “fonts from the flea market”. Thanks for sharing, Lopetz!

In 2015, Büro Destruct released a digital revival based on Lucky’s lowercase on their typedifferent label. It was this flea market find that inspired the idea. Characters which are not included on the single sleeve hence received different forms than in the original Lucky. BD Fontabello doesn’t have caps, but comes with several alternates.

  1. Lucky is such a charmingly weird and idiosyncratic face… I had never seen many examples of Lucky in use, so it’s really interesting to see several pieces grouped here together. I love seeing multiple examples of these obscure typefaces in use—thanks so much for posting these!
I wish there was a complete, unified upper/lowercase version available for purchase. Maybe someday…?
