This is the first US paperback edition of Elmore Leonard’s novel. It was previously published by Robert Hale in London in 1969, with a dull jacket pairing a photograph and contoured caps from Egyptienne. The pictured edition by Fawcett has cover art by Frank McCarthy [Nick Jones].
The title typeface is a strongly condensed Zenedipity, featuring the A with the one-sided top serif. It was drawn by Ed Benguiat for Photo-Lettering, Inc. In October 1970, it was already clear that this novel was soon going “to be a great United Artists motion picture”, as it is noted on the top of the cover.
