  1. Michael Bierut recommends an interview with Vaughan Oliver conducted by Joan Pons.

When I was a student, I hated lessons on typography and layout. Too many fonts, different measuring methods… So my approach to texts is an illustrator’s.

  2. Here’s a specimen cover for Atlántida and a glyph set for Saltino (from a combined specimen for Salto, Saltino, and Diskus).

Just to let you know, Saltino is now available.

  5. Thanks, Conrad. Yes, that’s a freebie digitization of subpar quality. It was made sometime in the 1990s and extended by Dieter Steffmann in 2000. I’ve added this info to the font page. I had to remove the link, as a) my understanding is that it’s unauthorized, and b) that website also offers pirated fonts.

Oliver and Grierson used all-caps Atlántida also on the cover of 23 Envelope Posters, a folder with fifteen posters created for 4AD acts. It was issued as 4AD no. WAD23 in 1986. “Posters” appears to be in Empire.
