New York on ICE is part of The Marshall Project, a journalistic initiative in collaboration with the New York magazine. It focuses on the effects of president Trump’s migration policy in the lives of (illegal) migrants in New York City.
Marché, Colophon’s loose interpretation of Eurostile, emphasizes less the original’s superelliptical theme but is still dense in paragraph texture and evokes an ominous atmosphere.
The choice of Acumin as its body counterpart is particularly commendable. Like Univers and Helvetica, Acumin is largely anonymous. But sustained exposure to running text set in Acumin can wake one up to its subtle square-ness that is buried deeply within the counter shapes (for this project, Helvetica was too round, Univers too narrow). This air of squareness resonates with Marché from time to time, and that makes Acumin a good match in this case.
