Front cover.
Issued just on the cusp of the London Passenger Transport Board being nationalised as the London Transport Executive this is from the 1947 LT Advertisement Rates booklet. LT has always made much money from adverts and for many years very carefully crafted publications describing sites and rates were produced. This booklet is designed by Pieter Byl and was printed at the influential Shenval Press.

Page 12 – “650 million a year travel from London Transport stations.” This page is formed from a photomontage with an extract from the diagram, a photo and text box. The platform is very crowded and very male orientated! A sporting event I think.

Page 54 – “London Transport puts your advertisement before the millions of businessmen, housewives and shoppers in London—every day.” On this page Byl uses the ‘mask’ formed from one half of London, the crowded Metropolis, and the LT logo, the roundel, in the other half.
