Since the 2017–18 season, all players of Amsterdam football club Ajax are local types — or at least they play with local type on their back. Kurversbrug is a revival by Ramiro Espinoza, based on the lettering found on most bridges over the canals in the Amsterdam city centre. The original alphabet was probably designed by Anton Kurvers around 1930.

  1. As of the 2021/22 season, Ajax no longer uses the Kurversbrug font, but instead uses a rather generic (and poorly spaced) inline typeface. The image below shows this years’s atypical striped away-shirt.

Was the Kurversbrug typeface a talisman that brought the team success for the past years? The first few matches in the new gear brought mediocre results.

[edit] By the end of the year, Ajax won the Eredivisie championship anyway.
