A Soundtrack for Daydreams is a project about Trent Reznor focused on his experience with Nine Inch Nails, especially about the album Ghost. As Reznor says, the album was composed starting from “a sort of visual reference that we had imagined: a place, a setting, or a situation”. The album is an attempt to describe that with sound, texture and melody. To treat it, in a sense, as if it were a soundtrack. A Soundtrack for Daydreams describes Trent Reznor’s work using a similar approach starting from a visual source, such as the tour pictures that cross the NIN’s history using Ghost’s sounds through the software Audacity to glitch, transform and manipulate the image to get a new visual output through sound. The glitch is always different, so the output is something unexpected that emulates the experimental and random way in which Ghost was recorded. Ghost is considered the highest pitch of experimentation in Reznor’s career.
