I’m getting Venus vibes from the unidentified. I’ve seen it look like that before. Kind of close.
Good call, Garrison! That’s definitely closer than the ones I’ve looked at. Here’s a glyph set of Venus Medium Extended AKA breit halbfett, courtesy of James Puckett (CC-BY):
By the way, at some point, Bauer recut the E, F and L in all sizes and styles of Venus, straightening the diagonally sheared terminals that are shown in the sample you posted.
Very nice! Those sheared ends definitely looked odd to me. Puckett’s image looks more familiar. I have no clue where I previously saw this! I’m not sure if there’s a digital version.
As far as the lighter weights of Venus Extended are concerned, there’s Scangraphic’s Venus SB (top) and Production Type’s Mars Extended (bottom). The latter was released earlier this year. It has the sheared terminals and is distinguished by a larger x-height. Vonness and Classic Grotesque have extended styles, too.
Wow! Didn’t realize Mars was a spin of Venus. I’ll definitely be looking at that!
