Barefoot Gen (はだしのゲン Hadashi no Gen حافي_القدمين_جين) is a Japanese manga series by Keiji Nakazawa. It is loosely based on Nakazawa’s own experiences as a Hiroshima survivor.

It is being translated to Arabic by Maher El-Sherbini, a professor in the department of Japanese literature at Cairo University who had completed his master’s and doctorate’s degrees at Hiroshima University. The first of the ten volumes of the series was published in January 2015. A series spanning the first three volumes (shown) followed in 2018. Arabic is the 22nd language Barefoot Gen has been translated into. [The Japan Times]
