This paperback edition of Larry Niven’s 1973 novel Protector (1973) was published in 1975 by Orbit, then an imprint of the Macdonald Futura publishing company. According to the ISFDB, the same cover art appeared already in 1973 on Ace’s Best Science Fiction Stories of the Year, without a visible signature. On Existential Ennui, Nick Jones notes that it “bears no relation to the story whatsoever.”
