City in Flames. 200-Year Anniversary of the Great Fire in Salzburg

In 1818, a big fire burnt down numerous buildings in the city of Salzburg. the Panorama Museum Salzburg dedicated a special exhibition to this dramatic event on the occasion of its 200th commemoration. The first part of the exhibition showed various locations of the catastrophic fire in historical engravings, watercolours, models, photos and videos. The second part was dedicated to fires in the surrounding areas and the founding of the voluntary fire brigade.

The black information displays and object labels tower like charred remains of the burned city above the the world-famous cyclorama by Johann Michael Sattler. The modern display font Cosi Times “blazes” around the MDF panels and forms a playful contrast to the informative displays. It’s paired with TheSans, the brand typeface of the Salzburg Museum.
