Self-titled album by Brazilian singer, arranger and piano player Tania Maria (b.1948) and Danish jazz bassist Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen (1946–2005), released in 1979 on the French Accord label. Photography by C.Auvillain.
The typeface is Shamrock, designed by Alan Withers and issued by Letraset shortly before, in 1978. Despite the fact that there’s a digital version by ITC, this informal calligraphic face hasn’t seen much use. Here it’s employed in all caps, which is rarely a good idea with script typefaces. Glyphs like Shamrock’s asymmetrical A or the querulent G (but also I) were drawn to work in initial position. When used in the middle of words, they cause gaps and clashes at the same time. The overly tight letterspacing adds insult to injury.
