Tief einatmen, summend lang ausatmen.
Take a deep breath, than breathe out in a long hum.

Summgedichte (“humming poems”) was published by Butter Books on the occasion of the opening of Functional Art Gallery Berlin in an edition of 40 copies. The book was conceived and designed by BNAG, a Karlsruhe / Marrakesh based design studio run by Oliver-Selim Boualam and Lukas Marstaller.

The cover typeface is Punk, a Metafont made by Donald Knuth in 1985 and presented in TUGboat, Vol. 9, No. 2 in 1988: “The idea of Punk was to start with more-or-less traditional stick-letter shapes, but to ask METAFONT to perturb the key points by random amounts so that the letters look a bit deranged.” According to Peter Biľak, Punk is “probably the first typeface with random deviation in its points structure.” It is here paired with AG Book Rounded, designed by Günter Gerhard Lange in 1976.
